Severed Leg Identified By Tattoos
Published : May 19, 2009

TAOS, NM – A severed leg with tattoos belongs to a 33-year-old Valencia County, N.M., woman who vanished in 2007, the Taos County Sheriff’s Office said.

Gladys Garcia’s family contacted the sheriff’s office after seeing media releases of the tattoos, the Albuquerque Journal reported Tuesday.

Dental records then confirmed Garcia was the dismembered body found in March in a dumpster along Route 68 near Taos, Undersheriff Ed Romero said.

Garcia lived 150 miles away from Taos and was reported missing by her mother in July 2007, Romero said.

The tattoos identified on the severed leg included the names Gladys and Frankie and the number 13 with a flower, Romero’s office said.

Investigators were trying to determine if Garcia’s death was linked to the killing of Tiffany Ventura, whose badly decomposed body was found under a mattress in the desert in Valencia County in January, the Journal reported.
