Employee fired for tattoos takes action
Published : May 16, 2011
WARWICK, RI – A local man is gathering support and getting ready to sue his former employer.
Nathan Hardisty was fired from the Walgreens at Hoxie Four Corners in Warwick because he reportedly has too many tattoos.
On Saturday, several people gathered outside the store to protest his firing.
The 26-year-old Warwick man says he was hired with tattoos showing, got great performance reviews and was even promoted to shift manager without any problems until a few weeks ago.
He says the store fired him after one customer complained about his tattoos.
Walgreens wouldn’t comment, only saying it’s their policy to not give out information about employee termination.

Walgreens has deeply disappointed me. I NEVER thought I would have heard such a story in connection with Walgreens.
Quite frankly, I’ve always associated Walgreens with a more liberal, accepting “way” about them. NOTHING like the way CVS seems to be more on the stiff, snooty side, with a side of judgement.
BUT NOW????? I think Walgreens is in the same category. It’s a shame really. Catering to one guy who is offended and couldn’t cope with his feelings.
Cry to Mama.
Well, a mans life is now altered. His LIFE!! No income??? That’s serious.
Is “Mr. Offended” happy now, with his letter I’m sure Walgreens has produced, apologizing to him. Explaining how they have dealt with the situation and terminated Mr. Hardisty.
Ok, you’ve got your letter. A mans life is altered because poor baby was offended for 5 minutes out of his life and couldn’t cope with it on his own.
Shame on Walgreens!!!! Shame on Mr Offended!

What if the said tattoo was offensive? does that give them a right to fire? there is a thin line between art and offensive. Maybe we should see the tattoo’s before passing judgement either way.

It is discrimination like all the other forms, some people cannot afford to remove tatoos and are not hired, fired and viewed with a crooked eye by the arrogant and ignorant. But this case, should it be filed and won will be a true victory for all the good workers who are fired for tatoos!

I have a copy of a old ‘Walgreen World’ Magazine.(around 2008-2009) The cover has an employee from Las Vegas with a tattoo clearly visable.
