I'm contemplating getting a new tattoo, I don't want anything big at all.  My question is... How small is too small for a tattoo?

I would say the general rule of thumb is to get a tattoo no smaller then the size of a quarter.  Anything smaller then that is going to affect the design of the tattoo.  You need at least a little area to define the design or things will start to get blurry.

I have a teardrop that's about the size of a dime but there isn't any detail to it, so it works.

I would agree that at least the size of a quarter is about the smallest you can go with a tattoo without it looking like just an ink spot.

Ha, that's interesting. The size of a quarter was going to be what I said too. Or like just a little larger than your thumb.

Maybe instead of trying to make your design extra small, you pick a location where it can be easily hidden at your choice and you go for something a bit bigger than a quarter. Like the size of a dollar coin or maybe even slightly larger. Doesn't have to be too big, either.
