Just a quick question to my fellow tattoo enthusiest.  I just got a new tattoo on Friday and today when I woke up I noticed several small scabs developing.  None of the scabs are more then a half inch in diameter.

How can I avoid developing more scabs?

Is ink going to come out when they fall off?

To avoid scabs you must keep your tattoo moist.  I prefer to coat my tattoos with a thin layer of Bacitracin for at least a week.  If the tattoo doesn't dry out, it won't scab.

As long as you don't remove the scabs prematurely your tattoo ink should stay intact.  It's when tattoo scabs get bumped or picked off that pigment comes out.  If you allow the scabs to fall off on their own you shouldn't have a problem.

Should I continue to put gel on my tattoo once it has scabbed and dryed out?

Once a tattoo has dried out or scabbed you can't remove the scabs prematurely or put moisture back into the tattoo.  I do recommend keeping your tattoo moist until it has completely healed, it will help with discomfort as well as regeneration of skin tissue.

If your tattoo has already dried and scabbed, applying gel will certainly help although the damage is probably already done.
